If you get the chance to visit Woodinville make sure you put wine tasting on your destination. With over 100 wineries in a concentrated area you are certain to find something you love. When making your plans, definitely put Novelty Hill / Januik on your list. This swanky and modern tasting room boasts not one but two wineries. Nectar downtown is proud to welcome Novelty Hill as our Featured Winery of the Month for November. Guests will get to taste and sample six Novelty Hill wines all available to purchase by the glass or take a bottle home for the holidays!
Novelty Hill is an award-winning winery crafting elegant, high quality wines through careful management of the winery’s estate vineyard, Stillwater Creek, and artisan winemaking under the direction of Mike Januik, an accomplished winemaker with more than 25 years experience in the Columbia Valley.
Mike handcrafts the wines for richness, mouth feel and balance to capture Stillwater Creek’s terroir. Located on the Royal Slope of the Frenchman Hills in the Columbia Valley, Washington wine critic and author Paul Gregutt recently named Stillwater Creek one of the “top 20 vineyards in the state.”
In 2007, the winery opened a tasting room and state-of-the-art production facility in Woodinville, 25 minutes northeast of Seattle. Quickly becoming one of Washington’s leading destination wineries, Novelty Hill is also a sought-after venue for weddings and private events. Described by visitors as “sleek, modern and architecturally stunning,” the winery has won numerous awards for its design, including the American Institute of Architects’ “Institute Honor Award” in 2008, the architectural equivalent of a Pulitzer. Novelty Hill shares the building with Januik Winery, though the two wineries are owned and operated independently.
With Mike at the winemaking helm since its first vintage in 2000, Novelty Hill has rapidly gained attention as one of Washington State’s top wineries, earning a place for its 2003 and 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon on Wine Spectator magazine’s annual “Top 100 Wines of the Year” list as well as being recognized as one of only two Washington wineries on the magazine’s “Worldwide Search for Values” in 2009. As Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate noted in 2009, “This portfolio over-delivers in a very big way.”
